Typhoon Haiyan swept through the
central Philippines on Friday, destroying everything in its
path.Thousands of people are believed to have been killed on the island
of Leyte. Roads and coastal villages were wiped out in an instant.Al
Jazeera's correspondent Jamela Alindogan was there when the storm struck
and gives her account of what she witnessed.

World's Strongest Super TyphoonTyphoon Haiyan or Yolanda has made landfall along Southern Samar and then a second landfall on Leyte as a record breaking Typhoon with winds on a 1 minute wind scale via JTWC at 314kph. That is stronger than the max winds in Typhoon Tip and the equivalant of the winds typically found in a EF3 to EF4 Tornado. The difference is the wind around the eye wall of this monster is about 100kph wide.
